The Zoo!!!

Yesterday Kjersten and I drove to the Portland Zoo with our friends Lindsay and Kai for a fun day at the zoo. Our friends Lindsay and Eden met us for the day too. We saw sea lions, otters, penguins, meerkats, a giraffe, zebras, gazelles, gerenuks, varying species of primates, part of a snake, two playful hippos, and lots of goats, pygmy goats from Africa included. There was also a cute sun bear. The zoo has three polar bears, but they were no where to be found when we walked by. The bears and lions/leopards, etc. were temporarily missing as their homes are updated. Mine and Kjersten's favorite was the giraffe by far, but I didn't get a picture, silly me. What a graceful creature; so fun to see it in person. There was also a sweet baby elephant. It looked tiny next to the big elephant, but it already had gained some 100 pounds, currently weighing 3o0-something. I'm not sure if the elephant with it was its biological mother because when the calf was born, the mother started kicking it, and the baby had to be rescued. We weren't allowed to take pictures of the elephant. It was a great day, sunny weather, not too hot. Good times had by all.

The video of the little boy is Kai. We were in the pygmy goat pen at the time, and there was one fiesty little black goat that was head-butting the other goats: the goat form of wrestling, I assume. The little goats would rear way back on their hind legs, and smash down on each other. Kai thought it was so funny, and his little laugh is adorable. Kjersten loved petting the goats. She also claims that we pet the polar bears. :) We saw a poster of the measurements of a polar bear. Did you know they average 9 feet tall? That's HUGE!!! Wish we could have seen them.

P.S. This is a random really fat baby I saw by the giraffe. He was so fat, I just had to sneak a picture! The mom looked in my direction while I had the camera pointed his way, so I had to pretend like I was adjusting something on my camera, but then I snuck this shot.
