What's your struggle?

Hi!  Long time, no post.  Here it is, 3:30 am and I can't sleep, despite my constantly feeling tired, so I thought I'd check in with you to see how you are and to give a little update on my family.  I hope you had a better nights' sleep than I.

HH and I are doing fine, but it's been too long since we've been on a date.  I just read a post yesterday about the importance of going on dates.  Oops.  We had some good conversations yesterday though.  That counts for something, right?

Kj does not like kindergarten, so she reports to me, but I think she enjoys it more than she lets on.  She is not interested in learning to read, but her writing is coming along (funny, no?) and she excels in math.  We're proud to report that she is in the accelerated 1st grade math class.  Go Kj!  HH is especially proud of her. They have a special daddy-daughter drive to school every morning and have been discussing archery lately, a sport that Kj would like to take up.  Since neither of them have done archery, I'm not sure what their conversations entail. :)  Back to kindergarten, every day I pick her up she tells me how she doesn't want to go to school.  I secretly am thrilled because I hope to homeschool her, but she's in a good school, so I'm also torn about it.  We'll give it more time and try encourage her in attending school.

Moo is sweet and fun, but I feel badly for her.  I think the middle child really does get the short end of the stick sometimes.  We're spending a lot of energy on Kj in kindergarten and Little S because he's little and cute, that I feel that Moo gets pushed aside sometimes.  I'll have to work on that.  Moo is great with Little S, finding games to play with him and keeping him happy while I'm in the shower.  She currently does not want to poop in the potty though, which is so annoying.  It's gross to change a big kid diaper.  She CAN poop in the potty, but doesn't want to for some unknown reason.  So she puts on a pull-up and then I change her.  I know, you're saying, "Just take away the pull-up!"  But that girl has amazing will power, and will hold it in for days, then get cranky because she feels ill, or just hold it in all day and wait until she's in a pull-up at night and then it all comes out.  Sigh. Someday, when my kids are totally and completely potty trained - which none of them are right now - I'll look back on these days and smile (maybe), but not now.

Little S continues to show no signs of ITP, which is great!  He is becoming so directive in what he wants.  He knows some sign language, but mostly employs the pointing with great enthusiasm and grunting for what he wants.  I'm trying to teach him to sign "please;" it's a work in progress.  We've found some fun new games to play with him including Blanket Monster and dancing.  You should come play too!

We are enjoying a gorgeous fall here, with temps in the 70s and bright, sunny days. I love it!  I love, love, love September in Oregon.  How is your autumn?  Are you already thinking about your holiday plans, because I am.  That seems so strange.  I hope we travel for one of them, Thanksgiving or Christmas.  Anybody want to have us over? :)

These are cute pics of Little S, but they also show some of his bruising from his ITP.  So glad that was resolved so quickly and easily!

Cute kids. I love that Kj wants to do archery! I know what you mean about the middle child getting neglected. It is hard stuff... Especially with certain things. For me, I think Gunner gets enough "look at me" attention, but I need to spend more time reading with just him. Ahhh, the joys of motherhood. Looks like you are doing a great job though. Keep it up.

I'm jealous of your fall weather! It still feels like summer down here, but I am looking forward to cooler weather and the holidays, too!

Oh, potty-training. One more to go for me. That's crazy about the pull-up fetish! I noticed you use cloth diapers -- good for you!
